“The Golden Bear” won the 1959 U.S. Amateur and was second to Arnold Palmer in the U.S. Open in 1960. After winning the U.S. Amateur again in 1961, Nicklaus turned pro and won the first of a record eighteen Majors by winning the 1962 U.S. Open. By age 26, he became the youngest player to have won all four Majors, a mark he still holds.
Nicklaus, who last won a Major in 1986 (Masters), was a five-time PGA Player of the Year. His quiet charisma and dedication to golf skills usually saw him have the most populated gallery whenever he played.
Winning a total of 117 tournaments, Nicklaus would also become a famed golf course designer, and his instructional books on golf are the blueprint of the industry.
