Al Trautwig was often referred to as the “Soundtrack of New York Sports,” and considering how many New York City-based teams he was associated with, it is a true statement.
A stick boy for the New York Islanders as a kid, Trautwig’s early love of sports would see him work in the industry, and seemingly every other sport under the sun. Trautwig brought his smooth tenor to the booth, which, combined with the background stories of competitors, made him one of the best in the business. Best known in New York for his 30 years of work on the MSG Network, Trautwig covered the New York Rangers, New York Knicks, and New York Yankees, but he had his fair share of national exposure.
Trautwig was the go-to guy for sports outside the big four, as he worked on 16 Olympics (mostly gymnastics), multiple Iron Mans, Tour de Frances, and marathons.
We are proud to nominate Al Trautwig for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
