  • Dick Stockton was a master of preparation, allowing him to ease through the big four of North American sports, and he constantly did so at the highest level.

A master at storytelling, Stockton’s strength was letting the drama unfold without words. This was shown early in his career with his call of Carlton Fisk’s Game 6 Home Run, amping up the drama as the ball struggled to stay fair. He was silent as Fisk rounded the bases, and simply said after:

“We will have a seventh game in this 1975 World Series.”

With CBS, Stockton called many of the major games, most notably associated with the NBA, where he called nine NBA Finals. He migrated to Fox in 1994 and Turner in 1995, staying with both until his retirement.

We are proud to nominate Dick Stockton for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
