    Digger Phelps

    • An accomplished college coach at Notre Dame, where he took the Fighting Irish to a Final Four, Digger Phelps tested the waters of broadcasting while still an active coach at the 1984 Summer Olympics. In 1993, he went into broadcasting full-time when he joined ESPN for their college hoops coverage, and he stayed in that role until 2014.

      Known for his passionate delivery, Phelps was one of the best at conveying coaching knowledge to viewers in an educational and entertaining way. He was also known for his bold predictions, famously picking Florida Gulf Coast during their shocking 2013 run.

      ESPN’s Basketball College GameDay was the house that Phelps built.
