  • Jon Miller dreamed of being a baseball commentator, so much so that, as a teenager, he played Strat-O-Matic and recorded play-by-play on a tape recorder. It did not take long for his dream to become true.

By the time he was 23, Miller was already calling games for the Oakland Athletics, and he would have stints with the Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, and Baltimore Orioles, but it was when he joined ESPN in 1990 that he gained national exposure with the San Francisco Giants.

Miller became a beloved figure (especially in San Francisco), and his easygoing and natural banter always feels effortless. He was also praised for his proper pronunciation of Spanish names, and his meticulous nature would never have had it any other way. His nickname of the “Big Kahuna” is as accurate as it comes.

Miller also called games during the 1970s for the Golden State Warriors, the California Golden Seals, the Washington Bullets, and for soccer for the San Jose Earthquakes and the Washington Diplomats.

We are proud to nominate Jon Miller for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
