  • A 20-year veteran of Major League Baseball, where he won two World Series rings with the St. Louis Cardinals, Tim McCarver brought his catcher’s cerebral skills to the broadcast booth, where he was an analyst for four decades.

McCarver worked regionally for Philadelphia, and later the two New York Teams, but he was also used after his playing retirement as a backup analyst for the NBC Game of the Week and maintained a national presence, having covered 24 World Series and 20 All-Star Games. McCarver, whose dry style worked perfectly for his strategic analysis, was so good that he often predicted plays before they happened.

While McCarver might be best remembered for his criticism of Deion Sanders playing two sports, whether you agreed with McCarver’s assessment or not, it came from a place of principle, which should be respected.

We are proud to nominate Tim McCarver for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
