Bob Ley was with ESPN on day one and stayed there for 40 years, and he was not just an original; he was an icon.
Ley was so revered within ESPN that his peers referred to him as the “moral compass” and “conscience” of the sports network. In addition to his hosting duties, Ley hosted the investigative show, “Outside the Lines” from its inception in 1990 to 2019. He was also the host of the first NCAA Selection Show and the first NFL Draft Broadcast.
He was also instrumental in promoting soccer across the United States and was not just a great orator but one of the best sports journalists of all time.
We are proud to nominate Bob Ley for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
