  • A two-time NBA All-Star, Rodney “Hot Rod” Hundley went into the booth, first for the Phoenix Suns and then for four years for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he was mentored by the legendary Chick Hearn. It was with Hearn that he learned to use his humor and wit and to develop his own mannerisms and catch phrases, which he took with him to New Orleans when the city welcomed the expansion of Jazz in 1974.

Hundley’s enthusiasm was infectious, and he stayed with the club as they relocated to Utah, when they were top contenders under the Karl Malone/John Stockton era. Like his mentor, Hearn, Hundley was simulcast on both the radio and television.

We are proud to nominate Hot Rod Hundley for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
