Only Vin Scully was a baseball broadcaster longer, but Milo Hamilton took a more nomadic approach, serving as the primary voice for multiple teams in Major League Baseball.

Hamilton's first lead play-by-play role was with the Atlanta Braves when the team relocated from Milwaukee. He had the privilege of calling Hank Aaron’s record-breaking 715th home run, but Hamilton was an honest broadcaster and called out the terrible attendance in Atlanta. When television mogul Ted Turner procured the Braves, Hamilton was out, but the man who popularized “Holy Toledo” would not have to beg for work.

He would work for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and later the Chicago Cubs, but neither seemed to be a good fit. This would change in Houston, where he was their lead announcer from 1987 to 2012 and found his home. Hamilton was later inducted into the Astros Hall of Fame.

We are proud to nominate Milo Hamilton for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
