  • Like his brother Bryant, Greg Gumbel was born to broadcast.

Gumbel had numerous jobs in the sports media landscape, but it was his long association with CBS, where he worked until his death in 2024 (save for four years at NBC), where he became a true national figure.

While he was more than capable of doing play-by-play on both football and basketball, it was in the studio where he shone brightest. Gumbel hosted the NFL Today over two stints, multiple Super Bowls, but it was the coverage of March Madness for which he became best known. Gumbel was the main anchor of those broadcasts for 25 years, and the first one following his passing hit hard for his co-hosts and fans alike.

We are proud to nominate Greg Gumbel for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
