  • Bryant Gumbel was born to be a television host.

With his smooth voice and eloquence, Gumbel is best known in the mainstream for his long-running tenure as the lead anchor of NBC's “Today.” It was in the sports realm that he got his start and never deviated.

“Never Stumble Gumbel” was just that: a mistake-free, poised machine who was so smooth that it often hid just how good he was. Gumbel hosted multiple sports shows for NBC, namely the NFL, MLB (World Series), and the NCAA Tournament. Gumbel was also a solid play-by-play, as shown by his work on the NFL Network.

Arguably, his greatest achievement in the Sports medium was his Real Sports show, which ran from 1995 to 2023, and allowed him to flex his journalistic chops and high-end interviewing skills.

We are proud to nominate Bryant Gumbel for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
