  • Dan Dierdorf began his path to broadcasting as a local sports talk show host while still playing the offensive line for the St. Louis Cardinals, and after he retired, he went right into calling Cardinals games. It did not take him long to reach the national stage, as in 1987, he began a 12-year run as a color commentator on Monday Night Football.

The cerebral big man then moved to CBS and was the color man on the number two crew for 14 years. After tiring of the schedule, he stayed put by calling games for the University of Michigan until “The Educator of the Trenches” retired in 2021. He also called hockey, boxing, and the Olympics.

Dierdorf joined an elite company when he won the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award in 2012 and is currently one of three people to have won that award while also having a bronze bust in Canton.

We are proud to nominate Dan Dierdorf for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
