  • After cutting his teeth on the Major League level with stints in the Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers booths, Joe Castiglione was hired to be the radio voice of the Boston Red Sox in 1983, and the man who grew up as a New York Yankees fan became synonymous with Fenway Park.

Holding the role until 2024, Castiglione famously missed the ground ball going through Bill Buckner’s legs as he was already in the Red Sox clubhouse to congratulate the winners. He finally got to see it happen in 2004, when his call, “Can You Believe It,” was echoed around the world. Castiglone and his “trusted friend” persona won three more World Series wins and over 6,500 Red Sox games in total.

When the “Curse of the Bambino” was broken, it was fitting that Castiglione, a converted Yankees fan, was there to call it.

We are proud to nominate Joe Castiglione for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
