Skip Caray may have been the son of the over-enthusiastic Harry Caray, but his style could not have been more different.
Caray was dry, saracastic and had no problems lampooning the situations; even if it took shots at the team he covered, which was predominantly the Atlanta Braves. An icon of the Turner network, Caray was in the Braves’ booth from 1976 until his passing in 2008. He is best known for his calls during Atlanta’s 1990s heyday, when the team was loaded with talent, and fans of the squad who had endured awful teams in the 70s and 80s will never forget Caray’s atypical excitement and joy as he called their best moments.
Caray also called games for the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Flames, and the occasional football game.
We are proud to nominate Skip Caray for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
