When you think of Philadelphia Basketball from the 1950’s to the early 1980s, Bill Campbell has to come to mind.
The voice of the Philadelphia Warriors from their debut in 1946 until their departure to San Francisco, Campbell was beloved for his straightforward broadcasting, sincerity, and excellent interviewing style. Campbell called Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-Point Game, but when the Warriors moved, Campbell stayed put and became the voice for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Campbell also broadcast games for the Philadelphia Eagles, Penn State Football, and the Big Five of Philadelphia College Basketball. He was also a sports-talk show host in Philly for decades.
Following his death, the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association established the Bill Campbell Award to honor his legacy.
We are proud to nominate Bill Campbell for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
