In 1952, Seymour Siwoff bought the Elias Sports Bureau, which had been keeping statistics in baseball since 1913. Siwoff, who, like many were enamored with statistics, appreciated the phenomenal work of Elias but felt it could be much more.
Under Siwoff, his company provided stats that appeared obscure at the time, such as stats during day/night games, lefty vs. righty, home/away. It would be the vaulting point for advanced statistics and an entirely new way of looking at the game.
Siwoff, who ran the company until he passed away in 2019, expanded the organization to cover statistical support for the National Football League, National Basketball Association, Major League Soccer, and multiple television and radio stations.
We are proud to nominate Seymour Siwoff for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
