Joe Dey was a good amateur golfer and sportswriter before he accepted a position with the United States Golf Association in 1934 as their executive director. Dey was in that capacity until 1968, and by all accounts, did a great job, growing the sport and standardizing the rules of the game. He retired, only to return as the first commissioner of the PGA Tour.
Dey was the PGA commissioner for five years and under his guidance. The Players Championship was formed.
We are proud to nominate Joe Dey for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
