Member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame
Bob Arum first went into boxing as the legal counsel for boxing promoter Lester M. Maltz, but a suggestion by Pro Football Hall of Famer, Jim Brown that he should be a promoter himself launched Arum into an unforeseen career.
Arum formed Top Rank in 1973, and he would become one of the most successful boxing promoters in history. Rivaling Don King for years, Arum controlled the top names in lighter weight classes, and he was the man behind the Marvin Hagler-Sugar Ray Leonard, and Hagler-Thomas Hearns fights of the 80s. Arum did have heavyweights, as he was the promoter for the Evander Holyfield-George Foreman fight, and much earlier, he promoted Muhammad Ali's fight with George Chuvalo.
Arum also promoted fights by Evander Holyfield, Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, and Julio Cesar Chavez.
We are proud to nominate Bob Arum for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
