Peter Laviolette gave everything he had to make it to the NHL, and while his stint as a player lasted only nine games, his tenure as an NHL Coach borders on legendary.
Laviolette’s first NHL coaching job was with the New York Islanders, which lasted only two years. However, after being let go in 2003, he signed on with the Carolina Hurricanes, a franchise that was still establishing its fan base after relocating from Hartford. In 2006, Laviolette guided the Carolina Hurricanes to their first Stanley Cup Championship. Although this was the only Cup he has won, he also led two other teams to the final: Philadelphia in 2010 and Nashville in 2017.
Currently, Laviolette has the most wins of any American-born Head Coach.
We are proud to nominate Peter Laviolette for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
