  • Dusty Baker was a hell of a player in his day, winning a World Series as a player with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1981 and hitting 242 Home Runs. After his playing career ended, he became a coach for the San Francisco Giants, the team for which he was later promoted to Manager in 1993, and had a solid 10-year run, culminating in a World Series loss to the Angels.

Baker left the West Coast for the Chicago Cubs, where he was a “Steve Bartman” play away from possibly making it to his second straight World Series. He later managed the Cincinnati Reds and the Washington Nationals. Still, it was a senior citizen who helmed the Houston Astros to a World Series Championship in 2022, making him the third African American to win the World Series as a Manager, and the oldest Manager to win a ring in that capacity.

Baker left managing eighth overall in Wins (2,183) and was the first to lead five different teams to a Division Title. Baker is not yet in the Baseball Hall of Fame, but his resume insists that he will be in the future.

We are proud to nominate Dusty Baker for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
