Frank Leahy played tackle for Notre Dame, where he helped them win two National Championships. Leahy went into coaching, eventually earning the head coaching job at Boston College. He did well there, going 20-2 and winning the 1941 Sugar Bowl and a share of the National Championship. This was fantastic, but Notre Dame offered Leahy the same job, and he engineered his release from Boston College.
Save for two years when he was serving his country in World War II, Leahy was with the Fighting Irish from 1941 to 1953, and he won four more National Championships. Leahy coached four Heisman Trophy winners, and his teams, while usually the most talented, was always the best conditioned due to his intense practice sessions.
We are proud to nominate Frank Leahy for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
