    *(As a gymnast)
  • Abie Grossfeld represented the United States in two Olympics (1956 & 1960), and he won seven Gold Medals over three Pan American Games. He then turned to coaching, where on the national level, he was an assistant at the 1964 Olympics and would be the head coach at the 1972, 1984, and 1988 Olympics.

Grossfeld mentored such gymnasts as Peter Vidmar and Bart Conner and was the coach of the U.S. that won the 1984 team competition. He also coached the men's team at five different World Championships (1966, 1981, 1983, 1985, and 1987), two Pan American Games (1983 & 1987), and the 1986 Goodwill Games. Grossfeld also coached for years at Southern Connecticut State, leading them to three Division II Championships.

We are proud to nominate Abie Grossfeld for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
