Before Bud Grant was a head coach in the NFL, he was at the helm of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, where he led them to four Grey Cups. That is a level of success that can’t be ignored, and Grant was signed to coach the Minnesota Vikings in 1967.
Grant was a known disciplinarian who despised his players showing emotion during a game, maintaining a level of mental toughness. He had his team practice in the cold to give them a cold-weather advantage, and he went as far as to ban heaters on the sidelines.
Grant's methods worked as Minnesota went to the playoffs 11 times, and while they did not win a Super Bowl, he brought them there four times.
We are proud to nominate Bud Grant for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
