  • A child prodigy, Tiger Woods' professional journey launched with enormous excitement in 1996 and was quickly justified by three PGA Tour wins, including the Las Vegas Invitational. At only 21, he claimed his first major at the 1997 Masters, setting a record with a 12-stroke victory and becoming the event's youngest champion. This meteoric rise instantly made him a leading figure in golf, marking a new era characterized by heightened athleticism and international popularity for the sport.

Following his breakthrough, Woods led the sport from 1999 to 2002, a period marked by his exceptional accuracy and mental resilience. In 2000, he secured the "Tiger Slam," winning the U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA Championship, and the 2001 Masters, becoming the only golfer in history to hold all four major titles simultaneously. During this era, he claimed eight PGA tournaments in 1999 and matched the second-longest winning streak with six consecutive victories. Throughout the 2000s, Woods maintained his dominance, earning multiple major titles and PGA Tour victories, reaching 15 major championships, and tying Sam Snead’s record with 82 PGA Tour wins. His comprehensive skill set, from driving to putting, earned him a record 11 PGA Player of the Year awards.

Back injuries and outside issues curtailed his momentum, but there is no doubt that at his peak, nobody was a more dominant presence in their sport than Tiger Woods.

We are proud to nominate Tiger Woods for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
