  • Oscar De La Hoya delighted the United States and Mexican-Americans with his likability, which shone through during his Olympic win at the 1992 Barcelona Games. Nicknamed “The Golden Boy”, De La Hoya did not just win titles; he did so with a huge fan base while shattering pay-per-view records.

Winning his first championship in just his twelfth fight, De La Hoya would win ten World Titles in six different weight classes, making him the first to do so. He holds wins over 17 World Champions, and if there was a non-heavyweight megafight within the late 1990s and early 2000s, De La Hoya’s name was on the marquee.

While still an active fighter, he founded Golden Boy Promotions and has since become one of the more successful promoters.

We are proud to nominate Oscar De La Hoya for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
