Before Tom Seaver’s arrival with the New York Mets, the franchise was the sad-sack team of not just the National League but of all the Majors. The highly sought-after Pitcher debuted for New York in 1967, where he won the National League Rookie of the Year, and while the Mets were still bad, he put all batters on notice. Two years later, Seaver won his first of three Cy Young Awards, and with a team of hustle and luck, he led the most improbable team to a World Series Championship.
Seaver never returned to the World Series, but he won two more Cy Youngs and established himself as one of the top hurlers of the 1970s.
We are proud to nominate Tom Seaver for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
