A two-time NCAA Champion and Consensus All-American at Notre Dame, Alan Page took his talents to the Minnesota Vikings, where he was part of the vaunted “Purple People Eaters” defense that took the team to four Super Bowl appearances. Page was so outstanding that he made history as the first defensive player to win the MVP (1971), and he also won two Defensive Player of the Year awards.
A feared blocker, Page was disciplined and intelligent, and was always a step ahead of the offense. A natural leader on the field, Page was a leader off it. Page was the NFLPA player representative for five years, and while he was still playing, he earned a law degree, which later led to his appointment as an Associate Justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court.
We are proud to nominate Alan Page for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
