  • The first thing that you think of when you hear the name Cal Ripken Jr. is that he holds the Iron Man record with 2,632 consecutive Major League Baseball games played. It is an accomplishment that helped save MLB, but there is far more to the infielder than just that number.

A Baltimore Oriole for his entire career, Ripken Jr. was an outstanding hitter, who is a member of the 3,000 Hits club, whose power at the Shortstop position netted him eight Silver Sluggers. As good as he was offensively, he was surprisingly underrated defensively. Ripken Jr. won two Gold Gloves and easily could have won more. Off the field, he was also one of the good guys, known throughout the game for his kindness and philanthropy.

We are proud to nominate Cal Ripken Jr. for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
