While still a teenager, Tennessee State’s Wyomia Tyus made the 1964 U.S. Olympic Team and won the women’s 100 m sprint while tying a world record. Tyus remained the top women’s sprinter in the years after, winning Gold at the 1967 Pan American Games, and then in 1968, she did something that was unprecedented.
In Mexico City, Tyus became the first person to repeat as 100 m Gold Medalist, and she won a second gold in the 4x100 relay
We are proud to nominate Wyomia Tyus for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
