  • One of the most dominating pitchers after the turn of the century, Christy Mathewson made his debut for the New York Giants in 1900 and led them to a World Series Championship in 1905, the year of his first of two Triple Crowns (the second was 1908). Mathewson was a five-time Strikeout leader and five-time ERA leader, winning a staggering 373 Wins as a Major League Pitcher.

Mathewson was such a respected Pitcher that when the Baseball Hall of Fame announced the first five members of its Hall in 1936, he was among that elite inaugural group, though he was the only one that was posthumous as he died from tuberculosis in 1925.
We are proud to nominate Christy Mathewson for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
