How synonymous is Jerry West with the NBA? It is his silhouette that is in their logo.
One of the greatest point guards of all-time West was praised for his fundamentals and quickness on both sides of the court. Having the nickname of "Mr. Clutch," West could be one of the most complete players of any guard. Had all-defensive honors existed before 1969, there is no doubt that West would have been named to more than the four first team selections that he did earn.
West would later become a two-time Executive of the Year and won six more rings in that capacity with the Lakers.
We are proud to nominate Jerry West for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
