It takes a special player to be the all-time leading rusher in football, and Emmitt Smith fits the bill.
A Heisman Trophy finalist at Florida, Smith was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. Along with fellow "triplets," Troy Aikman (quarterback) and Michael Irvin (wide receiver), Smith transformed the Cowboys offense back to greatness. Dallas won the Super Bowl three times in the 1990s, with Smith winning four rushing titles.
Smith stayed healthy, rushing for at least 1,000 yards eleven consecutive years (1991-2001), and would break Walter Payton's rushing mark.
Along with Smith’s all-time leading 18,355 rushing yards, he is also first in rushing touchdowns with 164.
We are proud to nominate Emmitt Smith for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
