While we have seen many athletes excel in two sports, there has not been anyone in the modern era who did so at a higher level than “Prime Time” Deion Sanders.
A two-time All-American at Florida State, Deion Sanders became one of the most recognizable defensive backs, and many refer to him as the best at that position. Sanders won a Super Bowl with both Dallas and San Francisco, and he won the coveted Defensive Player of the Year in 1994. Sanders was also a top returner and would occasionally line up on offense.
Sanders also wanted to play baseball, and while he made the NFL his priority, he played in 649 games in the majors. He became the first (and to date only) person to play in a Super Bowl and a World Series.
We are proud to nominate Deion Sanders for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
