  • Before becoming the first head coach of the Dallas Texans, Hank Stram had only been an assistant at the NCAA level. Texans owner, Lamar Hunt, believed that Stram was the right man for the job, and as often was the case for Hunt, he was proven correct.

Stram led the Texans to the AFL Championship in 1962, and when they moved to Kansas City to become the Chiefs, they remained a league power. One of the first to use the I formation and a two tight end set, Stram won two more AFL Titles (1966 & 1969) and won the ultimate prize, Super Bowl IV.

We are proud to nominate Hank Stram for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
